After 20 hours of travel we all are waking up to our first morning in Barcelona in our cute apartment to sunshine, blue skies, and to the amazing sounds of our neighbors having their family morning gathering…. A little unfortunate that the family gathering was in our walls and they were rats!!!

We, Mackenzie, Bryan, Marianne, David and Jacob, left Washington and our dogs on Friday after school. This was after David and Jacob got the last details and errands in order and the rest of us finished our last day of school before winter break.  We arrived at the airport, after I (Bryan) made a couple of wrong turns in dropping the car off at Sean and Lisa’s. Thank goodness for Susan gifting us Family ClearPlus passes, which allowed us to basically skip the security lines.

Our first flight ✈️ was from Seattle to London, our longer of the two flights.  Do to a full flight, we each got to check one of our bags for free….. It wouldn’t be a problem they said….

It was a fine flight, just long and not a lot of leg room, especially for David. Everyone was able to sleep for the most part, besides Bryan, who played Pokémon and listened to Harry Potter.

We got to LHR, and despite having all positive experiences with the airport, besides Bryan and Mackenzie spending the night there a few years ago, it was not quite as smooth a stop. Possibly it was because we were tired, but the lines felt like they were long, and despite David paying extra money so we could all sit together on our flight to Barcelona, the airline changed everyone’s seats so we were all spread out. Lame!

At 9:00pm on Saturday, we finally touched down in Spain!  Wahoooo!!! We were ready to be off! All we needed were our bags! As David, Marianne, Mackenzie and myself all got our checked bags from baggage claim, Jacob’s one  and only  bag that he brought, didn’t make it on our flight. As Jacob was commiserating with the many other passengers who also didn’t get their luggage, we found out this is a common occurrence. Hopefully his bag arrives today.

After getting to our apartment/AirBnB, it finally hit us… we were hungry! We decided to go walk to a pizza place, but instead found the restaurant Boro Tapas Bar, not 1 minute from our place! What a way to start our Spain experience! It was quite possibly some of the best food we have ever had!!! I think it was summed best by Marianne saying, “These potatoes, make me actually want to eat potatoes!“ And they were great! I would also say that the pork and risotto were so delicious!

Jime was our waitress and she was amazing. She kept on apologizing for her “poor English” skills, but we kept on telling her “Your English is so good! We are sorry for not speaking Spanish very well.” She gave us the local insights of what to do and what to eat. We are only here for two full days, but we might have to go back just to have her as our waitress again.

Now, as we are waiting in line for what smells like an amazing breakfast at “Billy Brunch” we are excited to continue and start our Spain Adventure!!!!
