Barcelona December 19th – Day 3 by Marianne

Last night, David and I were lucky to enjoy a party with our neighbors. (some human ones, not our local rodents in the walls) These friends did not invite us, but they were kind enough to make us feel welcome by singing, dancing, and playing their music at a level that made it feel like they were right there in the room with us:)  I think we were celebrating the world cup but I’m not positive.

Once again, we had a very busy day. We started with a delicious breakfast at Citizen Cafe.

From there we ventured into the world of public transportation and took the bus to Park Guell. We knew the bus would not drop us off right at the park so we were not surprised that we would have to walk a bit to get there. However, we were quite surprised by the VERY steep hill we had to climb.

Luckily parts of it had a working escalator which made it a little easier for our traveler in a boot.  It was still a pretty good workout.  The entrance seemed pretty small and unassuming for such a world renown place, but who were we to question.  We made our way through the park admiring the amazing views of the city, the beautiful grounds, and the architectural work of Gaudi.…but wondering where the amazing tiling was that we had heard so much about.

It was not until we were at the end of our route that we realized there are several entrances and we came in through one of the very back ones. The main entrance and just beyond is actually quite impressive and full of his tiling work! We are so glad we took the time to go see the park and relieved that David did NOT crack his head open when he ran down a set of stairs and tripped in his boot!

After the park, we made our way back to the apartment for a much needed nap to work out the rest of our jet lag.

Then we headed into town to start our evening adventure.  First to the market where we bought some fresh fruit and way too much chocolate. From there we wandered around the Gothic Quarter checking out some holiday shops and the local Christmas market.

Then it was off to dinner at a Tapas bar down by the water.  The Sangrias were amazing! The food did not wow us, but it will be hard to top the last two night’s dinners that were so delicious.

Last stop was The Allchemix, a fusion bar that Jacob learned about from his Spain book.  When we arrived, there was a sign saying they were all booked for the night.  Fortunately, we looked sad enough that the maître d took pity on us and let us in.  I felt like we were part of that commercial where the people have their hands on the window of the store and are saying, “Open, open!”  The drinks there were incredible.  Not just a drink but an adventure!

We are finally back home and ready for bed.  We feel like we have done Barcelona well in our two days here.  Tomorrow we head to Granada.  Maybe more of a “down day” so that we can catch our breath and be ready to go strong there the next two days.

  1. I’m loving the posts. I fear I’m a bit addicted. I’ve been refreshing and refreshing waiting for day 3. The Allchemix has my attention of course. The drinks looked eclectic in the best way. Can’t wait for the next installment. – Cindie

  2. Cindie, I am glad you are enjoying our blog. I may be fired from posting since this took me so long to complete🤪. It was attaching the pictures that messed me up! The drinks at the Alchemix were amazing. I had the one with Mrs. Potts. Maybe we will have to up our game when I get home with new drinks for girls night😉
