This is it, the last full day of our Adventure in Spain. Our tapas tour last night was SO amazing and as Mackenzie explained came with an itinerary for us today.
Before starting the day, I tried to look up our reservations for InClan Brut, a bar that both friends, Pam and Susan, said was a must for our short stay in Madrid. I swear I made the reservations while still at home in North Bend, but alas there was no confirmation to be found. I made new reservations but they only had room for two at 5:45. (Not sure I will be trusted with dinner reservations after this trip).

Not to let that get us down we headed off to breakfast at a cute little shop around the corner. It looked good the previous day. However, there were only pastries to choose from, nowhere to sit, and really bad coffee😏. Not deterred, we braved the Metro subway again and made our way to the Sorollo Museum.

We found the VERY long line for the non ticket holding customers and waited an hour before entering the building. While waiting. we looked up a little history about where we were. We learned that this man, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida (Valencia, 1863 – Cercedilla, 1923) is one of the most internationally famous painters of his time. He died in 1923 and two years later his wife donated their entire house and all of its belongings to the Spanish government to be made into a museum in his honor.

It was an interesting tour through the house, learning about his life and the history behind his paintings. We came away with an appreciation for how much he loved his family as depicted in his paintings.

We moved on from there to the Mercado de la Paz hoping that this one would not be as crazy crowded as the one we visited the day before. Not sure if we were just worn down and tired from our travels or just hungry from our disappointing breakfast, but we were not super excited by this market either.

We found the nearest restaurant with enough room for five and ordered lunch. It was cold out and they would not turn on the outside heater so it was a chilly lunch. Again, we were not super impressed but it did satisfy the hungry crowd.

David has been a good sport with all the walking we have been doing these past two weeks with him in his boot. He is definitely ready to get home and start healing. This is to say that he was not excited for the long walk back, so he and I took a taxi back to our apartment while the kids took a longer route home. (It is hard to find a taxi that fits five passengers).
We decided that David and I would go to InClan for a quick drink, then meet the kids somewhere else for our last night of tapas and drinks. We arrived at the bar with it’s unassuming outdoor appearance and walked into a super interesting cocktail bar. After being led to our table and perusing the interesting menu, we both agreed that the kids should really be a part of this. I went back to the host and explained about making reservations for five when I was back home and not finding them once we got here (that’s really all I said, but I was willing to continue with…and now our three kids are back at the apartment….all alone…wondering what to do without us🥲 I was ready to grovel and maybe stretch the truth) But, not needed. He quickly said that he would make room and to tell them to come meet us. Thank goodness! What a fun adventure in drinking and eating. A gin drink in a dinosaur egg, whiskey in Bob Marley, Rum in the Kraken! The pictures kind of tell the story! A definite win for the end of the day!!!!

So there it is. Our last day on this very fun adventure. We have loved it all. But as it goes when vacations come to an end, we are excited to get home to our comfortable beds, homes with power (hopefully), and our sweet dogs.
